  1. Finishing chapter 2 • Before we start reading today, quickly and silently, look over your answers to yesterday’s questions in your Tri 2 Google Doc. • Be prepared to check in with a neighbor about what we read and discussed yesterday.

Adding to your tri 2 google doc • You have now met several characters, but it is probably hard to tell them apart. • You are going to set up your entry for today (Fri, 1/3) like I have set up below. Add 1-2 pieces of information for each of the characters that I have included on this slide. We will check in for ROAR bucks! • Thomas: • Gally: • Alby: • Newt:

Looking at your feedback from last article • Take a minute to look at Ms. Furness’ (yes, somewhat sloppily handwritten) feedback from last time. • Most of you need to work on one of the following: • Using symbols/notes/marks in a way that is actually meaningful • Showing more of your thinking • Since this is a new skill, your teacher is going to show an example, and model what this could look like. • Here is ONE idea that might help you as you are annotating your article: Your annotations should reflect the conversation that you are having with yourself in your brain as you read.

What’s that, you say? • In a moment, you are going to see the picture again. • As you are looking at it, notice how we can actually see what this person is reading as s/he is reading and thinking about the article. • You will not have to make this many notes, but it does give you a good idea of the “conversation” that s/he is having with his/herself.

Annotating the symbols • You are going to be reading an article about foreign exchange students who come to Minnesota. • As you read, please do the following: • Annotate the article to show your thought process. • While it is ok to use SOME symbols, you should also have at least 5 notes that show the “conversation with yourself” that you are having while you read. Bring this completed article to class on Monday since we will open class by discussing your thoughts and making some connections to it. DO NOT FORGET!!! Make a note in your “Reminders”/“Homework” app, cell phone, written on your hand, or wherever you remind yourself.
