Seneca Falls, New York From July 19 to July 20, 1848. The Seneca Falls Convention was the first women’s rights convention held in the United States.
Seneca Falls Convention American men and women met in Seneca Falls, New York in the summer of 1848 to talk about the legal limitations imposed on women. The subject of Women’s Rights Reform began when they participated in the anti-slavery movement. They used the words of the Declaration of Independence to prove that they felt women were entitled to, as Americans, to have equal rights.
People of the Movement Lucretia Mott and Elizabeth Stanton were just two of many women refused permission to speak. Eight years later, Mott and Stanton finally organized a Women’s Right Convention. The decision of having the “right to vote” for women became the focus of the group’s campaign over the next few years.
People cont. Susan B. Anthony devoted herself to agitation for women’s rights and became known as one of the ablest advocates for equal rights of both sexes.
In 1866… Mott and Stanton joined Lucy Stone to create the American Equal Rights Association.
