  2. Opportunities: • Living abroad (Australia, Canada, China, The USA, United Kingdom, etc. ) • Study (Berkeley College, Harvard Business School, University of Cambridge, Trinity College, etc.) • Work (PricewaterhouseCoopers, Credit Suisse, Microsoft, Ford Motor Company, IBM, etc. )

  3. What does CAE involve? • Reading (4 parts = 1 hour 15 minutes) • Writing (2 tasks = 2 hours) • English in use (6 parts = 1 hour 30 minutes) • Listening (4 texts = 45 minutes) • Speaking (4 parts = 15 minutes)

  4. Reading (answer sheet) • Matching • Gapped text • Question answering • Matching

  5. Writing (2 hours) • Compulsory task (250 words) • One task selected from a choice of four (250 words)

  6. English in use (answering sheet) • 15 single-word gaps (vocabulary) • 15 structural-word gaps (context & grammar) • Error correction (spelling, punctuation, grammar) • Word formation (word-building) • Text-remaking (vocabulary, style) • Missing sentences (grammatical and lexical) each task is based on a short text

  7. Listening (answer sheet) • Take notes = summary of the recording (twice) • Complete the sentences (once) • Multiple choice questions (twice) • Matching (twice)

  8. Speaking • General information about yourself • Talk about a picture • Problem-solving or decision-making task • Dwelling upon the conclusions in the previous task

  9. Results: • A, B, C – Congratulations! • D & E – Try again! Grade A = 80–100 marks Grade B = 75–79 marks Grade C = 60–74 marks Grade D = 55–59 marks Grade E = 54 marks or below
