Guidelines for PQP • Be specific! • Use poetic language/terms when you praise or polish a poem • Describe literary elements when you praise or polish any piece of writing
…Guidelines continued • What images does it create in your mind? (imagery/descriptive language) • What type of figurative language is used? (metaphor/simile) • How is the poem or writing piece structured? (stanzas, rhyme scheme, organization) • What connections can you make with the text? (connections to self, other texts or real-world)
Guidelines for Questioning QUESTION: • word meanings • the meaning of metaphors and similes • author’s purpose or tone • the connection of the title to the poem • use of words, phrases, descriptions • the poet
Be specific Use poetic/literary terms Make personal connections Use descriptive language Use sensory language Say “I don’t know,” “nothing” or “everything” to describe your feelings about a poem Use the same response for every poem Be off task!
