  2. TELECARE WHAT IS TELECARE? The Department of Health describes telecare as: “any service that brings health and social care directly to a user, generally in their homes, supported by information and communication technology. It covers social alarms, lifestyle monitoring and telehealth.”

  3. Telecare refers to equipment which lets someone know that support is required. Two Options Community Linked Alarms Resident Carer Alerts

  4. Community Alarm Linked • Traditional pendants + pull cords have been used to summon assistance. • A range of sensors can be added to these systems. • First response is to phone the individual to see if help is needed • They can then contact key holders or emergency services. • Sensors are free to those at substantial and critical risk. • Users are liable for a charge for the pendant of £2-£4 per week.

  5. Resident Carer Alerts • These sensors link to a carer pager carried by a carer in the same house or garden. • There is no connection to a community alarm service, and so no weekly charge.

  6. Linked Equipment Bed/chair sensor provides an early warning by alerting that the user has left their bed or chair and not returned within a preset time period, 8,000 older people fall every day in the UK. Fall detectors can provide valuable peace of mind by automatically detecting a serious fall
