Volume of a prism

H. S. B. L. S. S. Volume of a prism. The general formula for the volume of a prism is: V = AH. A = cross-sectional area (the face that is the same on either end) H = perpendicular height of prism (distance the two congruent end faces). More specifically Rectangular prism. Cube.

  3. 6m 2m 10m Example 2 Find the volume of the following 3m V = AH = area of trapezium × height of prism = ½ × 6 × (10 + 3) × 2 = 78 m3

  4. 6m 8 m 12m Example 3 Find the volume of the following 10m V = AH = area of front face × height of prism = (rectangle – triangle) × 3 = (lw – ½ bh) × 3 = (12 × 10 – ½ × 8 × 6) × 3 = (120 – 24) × 3 = 96× 3 = 288 m3 3m
