Related to Jack London's stories • This relates to Jack London's stories because Buck did want to go back to the past. He wanted all the dogs to be free and untamed, undomesticated. • This also relates to the Law of life since Old Koskoosh wanted to be like his ancestors by dying the same way they did.
Analysis Atavism is shown throughout Jack London's novels and others too. In this poem, Atavism by William Stafford, it shows atavism in a variety of ways. It described how the meaning of the poem was how the characters wanted to go back to the past and they were full of regression. This connects with The Call of the Wild because just like in this poem the characters wanted to go back to the past. Buck wanted to go to the past where all the dogs were wild and free. Also in the Law of Life, Old Koskoosh wanted to be like his ancestors and die the same way they did. I think there are several meanings of Atavism. Some are regression or depression and some might be good. Atavism could also mean a "throwback of a generation."
