The variationsin J1819+3845 are NOT intrinsicbutdue to interstellarscintillations • Important, and unique, observations: • systematicseasonalvariations (factor 10 change) • still most dramatic extragalacticsource • variable time delay of ~100s between WSRT and VLA • veryrichpolarizationstructure, delayed in time • variationsstoppedabruptly in 2007 ! • Astrophysicalconclusions: • normalalthough compact (< 0.5 massize) quasar • turbulent screen extremely close to Sun: ~ 1-2 pc !! • sharpedge to screen, lessthan ~ 10 AU • origin screen stillmystery (colliding IS clouds ?) 1.25ox 1.25o
