Introduction to Keyboarding Exercises By Lisa Mitchell
Principles Used • 1.1 “Skills can be usefully classified along a continuum, from simple reflexive (or “reproductive”) to complex, strategy-based (or “productive”). The position of a skill on this continuum is a major determinant of the training approach that should be adopted” (p. 129). • 2.1 “Mastery of physical tasks progresses through a series of identifiable stages as skill develops. These stages are useful evaluation milestones that should be looked for as a guide to the progress of instruction” (p. 135). • 3.10 “The demonstration of the task should be shown from the viewpoint of the learner” (p. 145). • 4.11 “The pacing of high speed tasks promotes more rapid progress to mastery” (p. 152). • 5.6 “In general, knowledge of performance enhances the learning effectiveness of a practice exercise” (p. 161). • 6.7 “As learning and practice progress, care must be taken to avoid too fast a progression to more difficult tasks. Information overload generally results in a deterioration of task execution” (p. 168).
