How it all began. • 1974 UC Library Policy Task Force • Meeting on June 25, 1975 • Meeting on October 23, 1975 • Stanford’s participation • 1983 – formalization • Renamed: UC/Stanford Map Librarians Group (later changed to “Libraries”)
Purpose of the group • Coordination of library activities • Exchange of information and resources • Collection development • Shared purchases • Development/maintenance of an online catalog • Annual meetings required
Interlibrary lending • Internal union catalogs created • 13 groups now participate • Direct requests via email and mailing • Impact of small and large format scanners
Shared purchases • Shared Purchase Program (UC-wide) • Created the need for a unified collection development plan. • Formal collaborative collection agreement: “Collaborative cartographic materials collection development agreement among the libraries at Stanford University and the University of California”
