Impact on Diverse Populations“What We know” cont’d • Interventions from diverse populations are rarely explored and taught • Issues of class receive little focus • Structural issues underlying conflict, including systemic bias, receive little attention • CRE programs that focus on systemic bias or include “contact theory” can improve intergroup relations and promote just communities • Teacher and staff training is critical
Implications for Practicecont’d • CRE could/should be a great influence in addressing diversity issues. • CRE practitioners need to be culturally competent • We need research that focuses on the art of relationship building across diverse communities
