  3. Is there ever a time that the moon is completely lit up?

  4. NO! Only half of the Moon is always lit upby the sun. As the Moon orbits the Earth, we see different parts of the lighted area.

  5. Remember that we only ever see one side of the moon. • On nights where we cannot see the moon at all, it is still lit up, just on the other side!

  6. The revolution of the Moon around the Earth makes the Moon look as if it is changing shape in the sky. This is caused by the different angles from which we see the lighted part of the Moon's surface.  These are called "phases" of the Moon.
