  2. Similar Solids • Two solids are similar when their corresponding parts are proportional to one another through either a scale factor, area ratio, or volume ratio.

  3. Scale Factor • The scale factor is the same thing as the similarity ratio that we dealt with when learning about similar polygons. • It is the ratio of two corresponding edges of a polygon. • Edges are the lines that connect two adjacent faces • Remember that we typically place the smaller number on the top.

  4. Area Ratio • The ratio of twocorresponding faces of a set of similar polygons OR the ratio of the surface areas of two similar polygons • 2 methods for finding: • By setting up the ratio of the areas of two corresponding faces • By squaring the scale factor for the two polygons

  5. Volume Ratio • The ratio of the volumes of two similar solids • 2 methods for finding • Find the ratio of the smaller volume to the larger and simplify • Cube the scale factor
