  1. DNA Structure “ Parts that form DNA”

  2. DNA (pg 95) Deoxyribonucleic Acid DNA

  3. What is the Function of DNA? Genetic information that is unique for each individual/organism, that is passed down from parents to offspring. It gives us our traits and instructions for the cell. CELL DNA NUCLEUS CHROMOSOME

  4. What is the Location of DNA? DNA is usually located in the nucleus of a eukaryotic cell. CELL DNA NUCLEUS CHROMOSOME

  5. What is the Location of DNA? DNA is usually located in the cytoplasm of a prokaryotic cell.

  6. What monomer is DNA made up of? DNA is an example of which biomolecule? Nucleic Acid. What is the monomer of DNA? NUCLEOTIDES (composed of 3 parts)

  7. Pg 96 (draw and label the nucleotide) Phosphate Nitrogen Base (Adenine, thymine, cytosine, guanine) Deoxyribose sugar

  8. Which Nitrogenous base matches with Adenine (A)? Which Nitrogenous base matches with Guanine (G)? What is the backbone of DNA made of? Deoxyribose sugar and phosphate Thymine (T) Cytosine (C)

  9. Pgs 98 and 99 • Color the DNA molecule according to the key (at the top of the page) • Cut out each nucleotide. • Match up the nitrogen bases and glue them into pgs 98-99 in your journal.

  10. What is the shape of the DNA molecule? Which nitrogen bases match up? What did you notice when matching the nitrogen bases? What type of bonds hold the nitrogen together? A double helix (twisted latter) represents the shape of DNA A= T and C= G Apples in Trees, Cars in Garages Semiconservative: the DNA molecule is flipped on one side Weak Hydrogen Bonds

  11. You will have a few minutes to glue your pages into your notebook. Please use your time wisely. Things to glue in: DNA color model (from Monday) (pg 98-99) DNA 4.1 Notes (pg 97)

  12. On pg 102, on the right side, DNA Basics: Deoxyribonucleic Acid Stores genetic info Molecule of Life Structure is a double helix Chargaff’s Rule: A-T and C-G

  13. On pg 103, on the left side, Held together by weak hydrogen bonds

  14. On the right side,

  15. On the other side of the fold, Write the complementary strands for both sides of the DNA double helix

  16. In the middle, Steps of DNA Replication • Helicase unwinds and unzips the original DNA strand • DNA polymerase attaches freely floating nucleotides to the original strand • Both DNA strands end up with one original and one new strand.

  17. Log on to Google Classroom, and complete the DNA Replication Video Notes on pg 101 in your journal

  18. Log on to Google Classroom, and click on the DNA Replication Practice On pg 101, answer the following questions. You do not need to write the questions. • What is DNA replication necessary for? • What does semi-conservative mean? • What is the function of helicase? • What is the function of DNA polymerase? • What is the first step of DNA replication?
