  2. Pathways Everyone who does the Warwick MA must choose a pathway. We have a number of pathways through the degree: Open Pathway Critical Theory Romantic and Victorian Literature Modern and Contemporary Literature Shakespeare and the British Dramatic Tradition

  3. Foundation Module The Foundation module aims to give MA students orientation in critical theory as well as training in research tools. The Foundation Module is compulsory for all MA students. The Foundation module consists of two distinct elements: Introduction to Research Methods, a seven-eight week intensive module focusing on how to conduct research at Warwick, assessed by a short bibliography exercise. And Critical Theory, a term-length module, assessed by a 6,000 word essay. Both elements of the module are compulsory.

  5. Introduction to Research Methods Convened by Dr Rochelle Sibley Introduction to Research Methods starts in Week 2, Wednesday 1-3 in H051 – split into 2 groups for weeks 5 and 6 only – check MA noticeboardoutside English office .

Register for your modules You need to register via evision for your modules – the link for instructions is on the departmental website http://www2.warwick.ac.uk/fac/arts/english/currentstudents/postgraduate/masters/ You must do this by Wednesday of week 3 (16th October) and cannot change your mind next term. To do this, you need to know the following:

Dissertation and Module Variants Total Cats weighting for a full time MA student is 180 for the year Critical Theory plus 4 option modules all at 36 Cats Critical Theory plus three option modules at 30 Cats plus dissertation at 60 Cats Critical Theory plus 2 modules at 36 Cats plus dissertation at 72 Cats (see p. 7 of the MA Handbook for word lengths associated with these Cats points)

  8. Dissertation Dissertation workshop is to be held on Friday of week 2 (11 October) in Writers’ Room, Millburn House 11.30-1.30 for all those whose dissertation has received initial approval.

  9. Students must register for and use a Warwick email address – Cheryl Cave (the Grad Secretary) sends lots of information by email, as do I. Check the noticeboard for who your Personal Tutor is. Students should make a point of meeting with their pt during first two weeks. MA essays are submitted online and Cheryl will email details of how to do this out to all students a few weeks beforehand.

  10. Cheryl says: Remind students to refer to MA handbook – almost all the information they need throughout their MA is included in the handbook. If you can’t find the information there, ask Cheryl, or me, or your PT.
