  8. The Student Portal

  9. Students access the portal via the same address that a teacher uses: http://portal.det.wa.edu.au

  10. Students sign in using their allocated username (firstname.lastname) and password

  11. The student portal looks similar to the teacher portal.

  12. In the left panel, students have access to: • Notifications (online services maintenance e.g. when certain services are closed off for upgrades) • Password Management (change the portal password or set a user validation question) • Help Guides (links to help guide documents)

  13. In the middle panel, students have access to: • Personalise link: enables students to set the type of image displayed in their portal • Mail link: opens webmail, which has the same functions as teacher webmail, including access to the Corporate Directory.

  14. In the right panel, students have access to: • OTLS: clicking the blue ‘barnacle’ launches OTLS; • OTLS Help: the link provides technical support and links to assist students accessing the OTLS from a computer outside of school; • Collaborative Projects: if the teacher has enrolled this student in a collaborative project, then it can be accessed from this portlet; • Favourites: students can add their favourite websites to this portlet for easy access
