Why do we have to keep changing how we teach? “If we teach today the way we taught yesterday, we rob our children of tomorrow.” –John Dewey Shannon Loretto
What is LFS? What does it look like in the classroom? • Whole Group: Word Splash • As a whole group, let’s create a word splash on LFS with the above questions in mind. • http://mywebspiration.com • Small group: In groups of 4, reorganize the word splash we just created. Resize, color-code, and/or add pictures from the symbol palette to help. You will have about 5 minutes once everyone has accessed the document. • http://classtools.net/education-games-php/timer Shannon Loretto

Effective Instruction in the 21st Century • Effective, quality instruction will have many of the same key ideas, philosophies regardless of whatever new acronym or label we attach to it. • LoTi and HEAT just bring it into the 21st Century by utilizing the technology tools students use with the higher order thinking skills they need to learn. Task 4 Summary • This presentation is the introductory session for my PD plan I submitted for Task 7. • This PD intervention is part of a grant delivering podcasting and LoTi training to a cohort of 15 teachers/specialists at Delmar Middle and Senior High School, specifically targeting teachers with LoTi scores below 3. • The cohort will work together to develop lessons utilizing their training in both podcasting and LoTi, measuring student performance in the fall and then in the spring on NWEA MAP tests. • They will also utilize LoTi Observer to perform peer observations within the cohort and provide feedback and support for each other to bring up their own LoTi scores in the spring of 2011.
