Palenque. The Palace. The Palace is very complex. It is divided into 4 main courtyards. It had a tower. Lots of art. It was the central complex. . The Temple of Inscriptions. Built for K'inich Janaab ' Pakal. Has many inscription tablets. It is a tomb for him.

  2. The Palace • The Palace is very complex. • It is divided into 4 main courtyards. • It had a tower. • Lots of art. • It was the central complex.

  3. The Temple of Inscriptions • Built for K'inichJanaab' Pakal. • Has many inscription tablets. • It is a tomb for him. • An eight-stepped pyramid. • Largest pyramid at Palenque.

  4. Pakal the Great • Reigned for 68 years. • Most famous ruler of Palenque. • His name means “shield” • Ruled when he was 12 • Built most of the great buildings.

  5. The Main Plaza • Near a small group of temples. • Has many aqueducts. • Art carvings all over it. • The ball court is here • Palace is located here.

  6. Temples of Cross • The Temple of the Sun. • The Temple of the Cross. • The Temple of the Foliated Cross. • Each has a carved relief. • A set of temples.

  7. Mayans • Divided into big city-states. • Developed a hieroglyphic system. • Had blood sacrifices
