Storage? • Computer data storage, often called storage or memory, is a technology consisting of computer components and recording media used to retain digital data. It is a core function and fundamental component of computers. The central processing unit (CPU) of a computer is what manipulates data by performing computations. Almost all computers use a storage hierarchy, which puts fast but expensive and small storage options close to the CPU and slower but larger and cheaper options farther away.
Memory and storage Hard disk drives Every computer has one or more disk drives—devices that store information on metal or plastic disks. Hard disks can store a vast amount of information, including photos, videos, music, documents, programs and more. Your computer's hard disk drive stores information even when your computer is turned off. http://www.zetta.net/history-of-computer-storage/

Computer storage devices • The USB mass storage device class, otherwise known as USB MSC is a protocol that allows a Universal Serial Bus (USB). • A hard disk drive is a data storage device used for storing and retrieving digital information using rapidly rotating disks coated with magnetic material. An HDD retains its data even when powered off.
Cloud computing • Term used to describe services over a network by a collection of servers. These computers or cloud of computers enable the users visiting to have access to much faster computers or servers, be able to access programs and services from anywhere with Internet access often without having to install other software, and get access to the services from any device capable of reaching the network or Internet.
CD-R • Alternatively referred to asa cd writer, CD-WO, WORM drive. CD-R is short for CD-Recordable and is a writable disc and drive that is capable of having information written to the disc once. If the data is not written to the disc properly or has the incorrect information that disc cannot be erased.
How is data stored on a hard drive? • Data sent to and from the hard drive is interpreted by the disk controller, which tells the hard drive what to do and how to move the components within the drive. When the operating system needs to read or write information, it examines the hard drives File Allocation Table (FAT) to determine file location and available areas.
