  2. List 1 • accusatory-charging of wrong doing • contemplative-studying, thinking, reflecting on an issue • defiant – opposing; bold in resistance; defying authority • erudite – learned, polished, scholarly • jovial-happy • mocking-treating with contempt or ridicule

List 2 • apathetic-indifferent due to lack of energy or concern • candid – frank; straightforward; direct • foreboding – feeling of misfortune/bad luck • irate - furious • lyrical-expressing a poet’s inner feelings; emotional; full of images; song-like • irreverent – disrespectful • ridiculing-slightly contemptuous banter; making fun of

List 3 • apprehensive – fearful • condescending-a feeling of superiority • conventional-lacking spontaneity, originality, and individuality • gloomy-darkness, sadness, rejection • nostalgic – longing for the past • matter-of-fact--accepting of conditions; not fanciful or emotional • satiric-ridiculing to show weakness in order to make a point, teach

List 9 • contemptuous-showing or feeling that something is worthless or lacks respect • indignant/irate-marked by anger aroused by injustice • sincere-without deceit or pretense; genuine • patronizing-air of condescension • whimsical-odd, strange, fantastic; fun • obsequious-polite and obedient in order to gain something

List 10 • disdainful-scornful • objective-an unbiased view-able to leave personal judgments aside • reflective – illustrating innermost thoughts and emotions • reverent-treating a subject with honor and respect • sarcastic-sneering, caustic • solemn-deeply earnest, tending toward sad reflection
