How the Point Starts Point starts when the person serves the ball The ball has to land in the service box diagonal from the server If the server misses the first serve, they get a second serve FAULT If the ball hits the net but lands in the diagonal box first, then they get to redo the serve LET The person returning the ball can hit it where ever they want inside the singles lines
How the Point Ends • Missing both serves • Double fault • Hitting the ball into the net • Hitting the ball outside the lines • Double hitting the ball • Hitting your side of the court first • The ball touches any part of your body • Double bounce • Someone hits a winner
Points in a Game • Server calls out score before each point • Server says their own score first • 0- LOVE • First point- 15 • Second point- 30 • Third point- 40 • Fourth point- Game • If it gets to 40-40 • DEUCE • Win by two • AD-IN or AD-OUT
Games in a Set • Must win 6 games to win a set • Switch sides after the first game • Switch every two games • 5-5 • Win by two
TIEBREAK • 6-6 • First to 7 • Win by two • Switch server after first point • Switch server every two points
Sets in a Match • 2 out of 3 sets • Men’s professional • 3 out of 5 sets
