Outreach: Curriculum Development at SJSU Development of embedded system and and control course at SJSU and continuing education programs that support professional development of Cyber-Physical Systems. This will be achieved by: • Collaborative work between UCB and SJSU faculty • Financial support for SJSU faculty in summer research and coursework design at UCB • Development of Capacity Building Programs • Timeline: Years 2-5. Outreach: SJSU Capacity Building Program San Jose State University • Objectives: • Reach out to the CSU and to other universities whose mission is focused on work-force preparation and undergraduate education • Share material and support structures developed by the ActionWeb partners • Strengthen the CPSS-related community of educators, and • Facilitate the education of members of underrepresented communities in the domain of secure technologies. • Target Student Audiences • The broad population of educated individuals – general education • The designers of our future – STEM discipline students • The future domain specialists – BS and MS IT discipline students Partner with San Jose State University in the development of workshops that support and train educators in Cyber-Physical Systems Science Timeline: Years 2-5 Education, K. Outreach: Research Experience for Undergraduates Summer Undergraduate Program in Engineering Research at Berkeley-CSS • Program Overview: • 8-week research experience • Research guided by faculty mentors and graduate students • Educational activities include lab tours and industry field trips • Graduate school advising and subsidized GRE prep course • Stipend with Travel Allowance • Room and board provided at International House • Cohort: 3 to 4 students per year • Evaluation and Assessment: • Student pre and post surveys • Tracking post program • Mentor feedback • Advancement to Graduate School • Timeline: Years 2-5 Education, K. Outreach: Research Experience for Teachers (RET) Research Experience for SF Bay Area Master Teachers • Program Overview: • 10 week research experience • Research guided by faculty mentors and graduate students • Classroom and Lab Activities • Professional Development Activities • Partnering with SUPERB-CPS • Development of course materials, electronic portfolios, and research activities • Stipend with Travel Allowance • Room and board provided at International House • Cohort: 3 to 4 master teachers per year • Program Evaluation and Assessment • Evaluation Rubrics • Follow-up surveys • Poster Sessions • Tracking course development and adoption • Timeline: Years 2-5 Education, K. Outreach: Increasing the Participation of Women ActionWebs will Influence Recruitment and Retention Target objective of 30% participation of women in the center CPSS research Curriculum RET REU This will be achieved by: • Creating Coursework with Social Relevance • Research Opportunities for Undergraduates • Integrated Research across the Curriculum and Academic experience • Recruitment of Women • Financial Support • Cohort of 10-15 students per year • Timeline: Years 2-5 Education, K. Looking Forward Curriculum Development will leverage existing courses with new and revised courses offering Mentoring Post-Docs provide tools for success in both academic and industrial settings. Curriculum Development at SJSU will leverage and expand current programs as well as create new undergraduate research opportunities at SJSU. SJSU Capacity Building Program will draw in CSU and broaden participation. REU and RET programs will attract and retain students in STEM, create research opportunities for students and begin to file the STEM pipeline at the high school level. Increasing participation of women will support NSF broadening participation initiatives and US workforce development in STEM fields. Education, K. Gates
