  1. Multiplying Binomials

  2. We learned to multiply a monomial and a polynomial:

  3. Try these two on your own:

  4. Multiplying Binomials • Now, we will learn how to multiply two binomials together. • A Binomial is a polynomial with two terms:

  5. Multiplying Binomials • To multiply two binomials, we multiply each term in the first binomial with each term in the second binomial. • We can use a table to help keep the multiplication organized.

  6. Using the Table

  7. Using the Table • Draw a 2 by 2 grid • Label the rows with the first binomial: one term to the left of each row • Label the columns with the second binomial: one term above each column • Multiply across the rows and columns to fill in the table • Write the result as the product of the binomials • Combine like terms

  8. Using the Table

  9. Using the Table on your own

  10. Extra Examples

  11. Homework • Multiplying Binomials: Table Method, Worksheet 1

  12. Variations on multiplying • There may be other variables • There may be higher powers • There may be no like terms to combine • You will need to put the answer in standard form
