  2. Overview • Elementary Schools – Have a representative in attendance at Cub Scout School Night to sign up any youth over 11 years of age. • Middle Schools – Hold a troop open house inviting middle school students to attend.

  3. Overview • My Best Friend is a Scout – Brainstorm ideas of potential members and invite to a special troop meeting or activity. • Mom-to-Mom recruiting – Parents promote Scouting to their son’s social group (neighbors, friends, Sunday School class, relatives, etc.)

  4. Pre-opening - Game while people arrive Opening -Welcome and Flag Ceremony Activity Time Skills instruction for youth Parent Orientation Share annual program plan Fill out applications Closing SM Minute Closing Ceremony Refreshments Open House

  6. Ask youth to Join! • 44% of all non-Scouts and former Scouts say that they are very interested or somewhat interested in joining • 67% say they were never asked. • That means that for every 100 youth that are NOT in Scouting

  7. Ask youth to Join • 44 are interested in joining Scouting! • 30 of them were not asked!

  8. Current Scouts more likely to be in Sports than former and non-Scouts

  9. We need to do a better job promoting our program!

A member from the district visits unit to speak about peer-to-peer recruiting Brainstorm potential members Invite to xxx for pizza party and to learn about Scouting Only youth that bring a non-Scouting Friend can participate. Adult leader and SPL present to tell about Troop activities. Sell “sizzle” of Scouting. Pizza Parties

  12. School Assemblies/Boy Talks • Set the atmosphere – displays, props, etc. • Sell the sizzle of Scouting • Show the “Tools of Scouting” • Boy Fact Surveys • Follow up with interested individuals within 24 hours giving them a personal invitation.

  13. Follow up with all boys that did not move up this spring. Plan fall campout to invite next years crossovers to be a part of. Assign a Den Chief to the Webelos Den Talk to Webelos Leader about going though BS leader training Help WL with activity badge instruction Invite to troop meetings, attend den meetings. Webelos to Scout Transition
