Which License do I Need • C Non-commercial license for drivers age 18 and older • D drivers ages 16 and 17 • M motorcycle operators. • A/B Commercial Licensing • E, F drivers who operate commercial motor vehicles and who are exempt from commercial licensing requirements. instructional permits the class designation followed by the letter “P”
Who needs a license • within 30 days of becoming a resident. • Anyone meeting 2 of the following requirements: • permanent home in Georgia • accepts employment or • engages in any trade or occupation in Georgia or • enters his/her children in school. • Any person that has been in the state for 30 days or more. Ways to lose your privilege • Suspension • Revocation • Cancellation
Suspension all driving privileges are temporarily withdrawn • for a specific period of time • until requirements have been completed • Defensive Driving • Reinstatement Fees • Fines
Mandatory Suspension • Homicide by vehicle. • Serious injury by vehicle. • Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. • Any felony in the commission of which a motor vehicle is used. • fleeing or attempting to elude an officer. • Applying for or using Fraudulent or fictitious license/ID card
Mandatory Suspensions … • Hit and run or leaving the scene of an accident. • Racing. • Driving with a revoked, canceled, or suspended registration • Felony forgery related to an identification document. • Driving without insurance. • Driving while license is suspended, revoked, or canceled. • Any violation of the Georgia Controlled Substance Act. • Accumulation 15 or more points
Under 21 Suspensions • Reckless driving. • Aggressive driving. • Attempting to Purchase or purchasing an alcoholic beverage. • possession of alcohol while operating a motor vehicle. • Using fake id to buy alcoholic beverages. • Using someone else's id to buy alcoholic beverage.
Under 21 Suspensions • Speeding 24 mph or more over the speed limit. • Unlawful passing of a school bus. • Improper passing on a hill or a curve. • Any 4-point offense. • Four or more points in 12 months prior to age 18. • School attendance or conduct violations (under age 18).
Other Suspensions ( non Conviction ) • Refusal to take a chemical test for intoxication. • Failure to appear in court or respond to a citation. • Child Support. • Super Speeder fee. • Safety responsibility. • Medical revocation. • School attendance (under age 18). • Parent requested revocation (under age 18).
Revocation driving privileges are terminated and withdrawn for a period of time prescribed by a formal action of the Department
Mandatory revocations • Conviction of three of the mandatory suspensions within 5 years • Refusing to submit for re examination • Sufficient evidence of incompetence or unfitness to drive
Revocations • Refusal to submit to a re-examination • Skills or knowledge • sufficient evidence that you are incompetent or unfit to drive • disease, • mental or physical disability • alcohol or drug addiction.
Cancellation • fails to give the required/ correct information • otherwise ineligible after application has been made. • may reapply for a license once the requirements have been satisfied
