Electrospun nanofibers of PVDF-TrFE blended with the conducting polymers PEDOT-PSSA and PANi-PSSANicholas J. Pinto, University of Puerto Rico at Humacao, DMR 0703544 • The ferroelectric polymer poly(vinylidene fluoride-trifluoroethylene)-PVDF-TrFE and the conducting polymers poly(3,4-ethylenedioxthiophene)-(poly styrene sulfonic acid)-PEDOT-PSSA or polyaniline-(poly styrene sulfonic acid)-PANi-PSSA have mainly been studied in the form of thin films. • We have used the electrospinning technique to prepare for the first time true nanofibers of these polymers as a composite material. The fibers are both conducting and ferroelectric. • We have exploited the conducting nature of these polymer nanofibers to fabricate a Schottky diode. • The goal of this project is to fabricate ferroelectric field effect transistors based on these polymer nanofibers. High school students win prize at the science fairNicholas J. Pinto, University of Puerto Rico at Humacao, DMR 0703544 High school students Yarely and Yelitzza with their prize at the local science fair for electrospinning polymer nanofibers containing antibiotics. Yarely and Yelitzza are both freshman students at UPRH and Yarely continues to work with Pinto in his lab. • During the academic year 2009-2010, five students including two high school students worked with Pinto on various projects.
