Ultrasound waves are used to detect objects. • Animals use ultrasound waves for echolocation.: • send out ultrasonic sound waves and listen for the echo to come back to determine their location. • Bats, dolphins, etc. • People: • Sonar (sound navigation and ranging) • Depth finders/fish finders • Medicine: babies, internal organs, etc.

  3. What’s the difference between music and noise? • Music has a clear rhythm or pitch/noise is random. • How an instrument vibrates determines the type of sound it produces.

  4. Bill Nye has great examples of how different musical instruments create different sounds with different frequencies (pitch), so let’s watch it!
