She was a bit of an introvert due to her social awkwardness at times. • Her father was very strict, and censored her reading • Yet she managed to still get books and expand her knowledge • Her fathers authoritarian style of parenting caused her to slightly dislike male figures in authority • Her religious beliefs were loose at best, she did not follow the strict Calvinism way of belief • She also did not accept the idea of original sin.

Her Poetry • Her poetry is quite significant due to the sheer fact that she’s a woman, not only were her poems great, but there were hundreds of them. • They have inspired much of the literary world.
“I had no time to hate because" • I HAD no time to hate, because The grave would hinder me, And life was not so ample I Could finish enmity. • Nor had I time to love; but since 5 Some industry must be, The little toil of love, I thought, Was large enough for me.
Explication • Her poem on the previous slide literally meant she had no time to hate, nor the time to love, but she still chose to try and love all of her life. Instead of hate. • She uses capitalization for the first two words “I HAD”, meaning it’s something no longer in her possession, it was already gone before it began because her death would keep her from that hate anyway.
Emily Dickinson was an inspiration to thousands of writers, and has been for generations along with generations to come. She was one of the first well known female poets (after full publication of her poems) and became one of the greatest.
