  1. Indian Institute of Astrophysics a premier Institute in Research & Development in Astronomy & Astrophysics Indian Astronomical Observatory, Hanle-Ladakh (J&K) 2-M Himalayan Chandra Optical & Infrared Telescope (HCT) at Trans Himalayan Region at an altitude of 15000ft IAO-Hanle site has low water vapour, low opacity, low aerosols, low extinction, low sky background, low precipitation, low wind-speed at night, an average of 190 photometric & 260 usable nights per year spread all over the year. Min. Temp.: –30 C, Min. Relative humidity: <10%. The site is equipped with good infra-structure support with liquid nitrogen, vacuum coating and 90KW Solar Power plants. Set up in the year 2000 and equipped with optical spectro-graph & Camera (HFOSC) and infrared imaging camera (NIRCAM), HCT is remotely operated from Bangalore (CREST, IIA) through a satellite-based communication link. IAO was the World’s highest Observatory in the 20th Century and is one of best High altitude sites of the new millennium. HCT is used round the year by national and international astronomers for studying diverse objects ranging from the solar system to cosmology. NIRCAM HFOSC CREST-HosakoteHCT Remote Center
