An Honest Heart Ps. 52, Acts 5 • Acts 5 story seems right out of the O. T. • Like other O.T. stories, harsh… ‘lied & died.’ • 9th Commandment set in court? Lying harms worst there, lives can be at stake. • 9th forbids ALL lying, we speak truth in Love. • Many kinds of lies, the matter is VERY serious • Jesus is Truth, Devil ‘father of lies’, we serve one or the other. • Our culture is having a crisis of dishonesty.
An Honest Heart Ps. 52, Acts 5 • Are there good reasons to lie? • Rarely if ever! We don’t like or trust truth. • Why did Ananias & Sapphira die? • - truth is incredibly important! • - witnesses must not lose credibility! • All forms of dishonesty are Wrong. • Dishonesty displays lack of trusting God! • In Acts 5 result in ‘fear’ and respect for truth!
An Honest Heart Ps. 52, Acts 5 • Truth can have short term consequences but always long term peace and benefit. • Lying proves we don’t trust God’s providence. • Being “Just Like Jesus” is to be truthful. • V. 9 shows praising God is always truth. • ‘speak to each other in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs’ helps us avoid any deceit. (Col 3:16-17) • "Praise God, From Whom All Blessings Flow”
