  3. In 70 B.C., Pompey and Crassus were the new Consuls. Caesar was elected military tribute.

  4. In 68 BC, Soon after returning to Rome, Caesar’s wife, Corneliadied while giving birth to a stillborn son.

  5. In 68 B.C., Caesar was elected questor (treasury official). He later got the position of curuleaedile (responsible for maintaining public buildings and holding festivals).

  6. In 67 BC. Caesar married Pomeia, the granddaughter of Sulla.

  7. In 65 B.C., Caesar’s next position was as proraetor (a Roman magistrate in charge of a province) of Spain.

  8. In 63 BC Caesar was elected to the position of Pontifex Maximus, the chief priest of the Roman state religion. In 62 BC Pompeia hosted the festival of the Bona Dea ("good goddess"), which no man was permitted to attend, in this house. However a young patrician named Publius Clodius Pulcher managed to gain admittance disguised as a woman, apparently for the purpose of seducing Pompeia. He was caught and prosecuted for sacrilege. Caesar gave no evidence against Clodius at his trial, and he was acquitted. Nevertheless, Caesar divorced Pompeia, saying that "my wife ought not even to be under suspicion."

  9. In 60 BCE, Caesar formed an alliance with Pompey and Crassus. This became known as the “The First Triumvirate”. He promised to support their interests if they would help him become a consul.

  10. In 59 B.C., Caesar his alliance helped him to be elected consul. He did not allow the other consul, Bibulus (an Optimate) to do much. This created quite a few enemies for him, including Cato.

  11. Caesar strengthened his alliance with Pompey by giving him his daughter Julia to marry. Caesar himself got married also that year to Calpurnia.
