Thesis: Good….Better….Betterer In Steinbeck’s novel, George and Lennie solve their loneliness problem, proving that people don’t have to be the same to be of help to each other. (______) In Of Mice and Men, author John Steinbeck creates the unlikeliest of friendships in order to imply that human connection is a basic human need, one that must be filled in order to remain a compassionate member of society. Commentary: Pick two, label 1 & 2 (order) Thesis: Trust is built slowly over time; it is the skeleton of friendship, providing a strong basis to handle conflict, even when two people are hardly similar enough to seem like they could be friends. “It seemed to take George some time to free his words. ‘He- would of went south,’ he said. ‘We come from north so he would of went south’” (97). _____George tells Slim the exact opposite of where he truly believes Lennie went. ____Pausing before answering, George needed time to “free his words”, which implies he was hesitating in order to decide whether to be truthful or deceitful. _____George lies to Slim, maintaining the bond of trust he built with Lennie. _____It was immoral to lie to Slim, but George was being true to hisfriendship with Lennie.
