Pre-registration programmes: • 1935 London School of Occupational Therapy founded (2nd in the UK) – now Brunel University – 78 years of educating OTs! • Highest number of commissioned student places from the NHS, for the London area.
Pre-registration programmes: • Both awards confer eligibility to register with the Health and Care Professions Council and practice as an occupational therapist in the UK • Both accredited by the World Federation of Occupational Therapists (WFOT) • Both include 28 weeks of placement experience across a range of practice settings (health, social care, voluntary sector)
Pre-registration programmes: • BSc Occupational Therapy (Honours award) • 3 years, full-time • MSc Occupational Therapy (pre-registration) • 2 years, full-time (45 weeks per year) • Elements of learning are shared across both programmes • Strong focus upon core skill development • Academic and study skills development is incorporated into modules • MSc includes research dissertation • Opportunity to conduct practice-based research
Post-registration programmes • MSc Occupational Therapy • The only post-registration MSc dedicated to OT in London. Started in 1996 • WFOT- approved Diploma or first degree in Occupational Therapy required. • Optional modules permit specialised focus • Some modules shared with other programmes • Students can join as associates and take individual modules • Full-time (1 year) and part-time (3 years) modes • 3rd year of part-time mode = dissertation – no fees
MSc Hand Therapy • Admission: Diploma or first degree in Physiotherapy or Occupational Therapy from an approved course • Attendance options as with MSc OT, or may register for a PG Cert in Hand Therapy • Specific modules attract points from the British Association of Hand Therapists – can contribute to BAHT accreditation • Some modules shared with the MSc OT
Diversity and widening participation • The BSc has the most culturally and ethnically diverse mix of students compared to equivalent programmes across the UK • International students are assigned to one personal tutor • In-Division welcome and orientation events • Established reputation for supporting students with disabilities • International teaching team includes people from South Africa, Singapore, Malta, USA, Greece, Holland, Scotland, and England!
