  1. Plenary session:Overall information and knowledge architectures for CRPs Building Block session: Knowledge commons: Open access, open licenses, open knowledge

  2. What is the unique value proposition of this building block / Why do we need this for our CRPs? • In correspondence of CGIAR Consortium provisions, to maximizes the global accessibility of research outputs and ensure that they lead to the broadest possible impact • Making content knowledge available as open access for new innovative products and services by partners (see open innovation, open services innovation) Building block: Knowledge commons

  3. Who is already doing some work around this, how, with what success? • Some CG Centers make their datasets available on DataVerse, e.g., ICRAF, IFPRI, CCAFS • ICRAF has Research Data Archival Guidelines • CCAFS has data management strategy / policy • Many Centers main a repository to share content resources Building block: Knowledge commons

  4. What are principles/critical success factors/interventions/actions needed to take advantage of this BB? • Harmonize the description of resources through standardized metadata and controlled vocabulary • Move towards compliance with OAI-PMH • Incentives for scientists to share their datasets and publications in open access • Policy on quality control for sharing datasets • Develop and implement open access policy and guidelines on CRP-level Building block: Knowledge commons

  5. Optional What were main discussion points? • Linked Open Data, specifically making datasets available • Tools for integrated library system / repositories • Policies / guidelines for making datasets publicly available • Mechanisms for affordable open access publishing modes, e.g., use pre-prints of articles Building block: Knowledge commons

  6. Optional What gaps remain and what will be done about it? • Work with content components to enhance re-use across CRPs and CGIAR System • Invite / re-engage the capacity development (CD) community into KMcommunity [Note: The SRF combines CD and knowledge sharing / KM in a single section] • CGIAR Consortium to arrange for new better access publishing modes with established publishers rather than on a CRP-level Building block: Knowledge commons
