What is malaria? • Malaria is a deadly disease that attacks 300 to 500 million people each year. • It is mainly a disease of poverty and attacks children under the age of five. • Malaria are mostly found in Africa, Asia and South America as shown in the map.
What makes malaria so dangerous? • Falciparum malaria is dangerous deadly disease. • It causes fever, headache, vomiting and other flu-like symptoms. Malaria kills by infecting and destroying red blood cells (anaemia) and by clogging the capillaries that carries blood to the brain (cerebral malaria) or other vital organs.
