Does the mass of a car determine acceleration(0-60 mph) of itself? By: Stanley Garate & Nicholas Vargas
Acceleration-The increase of speed or velocity of a moving object. Momentum- Force or speed of a moving object. This research is important because, it would educate car buyers how mass effect the speed of a 6-cylinder car. FORMULAS Momentum- P=MV P=Momentum M=Mass V=Velocity Acceleration- a=(v-v0)/t a=acceleration v=final velocity v0=initial velocity t=time Nitro-Intro
Methodology • The research that we are proceeding on the acceleration of cars is being based on the website www.cars.com. This site is trustable and the most reliable of all car website because it is told in “Mitsubishi weekly”. We are looking for a specific type of car, based on its shape, engine size, and car size. The research is compose of crossovers/mid size SUVs, with the 6-cylinder engine. We are aiming to find 0-60/quarter mile of 20-30 vehicles. • We will have to factor some other car specs for our research. We are also defining these terms called momentum and what acceleration is and when we got our definition, we have to explain what they do, or what they are. On top of that we are also doing some research about acceleration and momentum. In the research we need to find the equation of momentum and acceleration. • This research would educate car buyers how mass effect the speed of a 6-cylinder vehicle. Maybe a car buyer would want to buy a car with a quick acceleration. This he/she would find this information quite helpful. Also with this information, he/she would have a good choice on what car they might buy. Since we are researching crossovers people who have families, they might want a 5-7 seated car, but also with a great amount of speed.
Conclusion • The outcome of this magnificent project is to show what kind of cars the buyers would want to get. • To improve this project if it was to get repeated, we would show more cars. • Also we found out that its not just the mass of the car that effects the acceleration, you also have to factor in its horsepower.
