Geospatial, Open-Source Hosting of Agriculture, Resources and Environmental DataSynthesis of Case Studies Presented by Thomas Hertel Purdue University Presentation at the GEOSHARE Workshop, Purdue University Wednesday, September 10, 2014
Take-Away Messages from Morning Session • Geospatial data are key to many decisions affecting global food and environmental security • Data consistency is critical for supporting analysis; we currently spend too much time ‘at the end of the pipeline’ • Temporal variation (seasonality and time series) is important • Improved data sometimes matter; sometimes not! This is important information • It is all about workflows – culminating in products of interest to user communities • Regional knowledge improves global data products • Open access and transparency are essential
