"A general truth; a law comprehending many subordinate truths; as the principles of morality, of law, of government, etc." Webster’s 1828 Dictionary Applying Biblical Principles:
Organization Convictions: Standards set forth by the organization (UPCI) as a whole. They are either clearly specified in God's word, with no room for interpretation, or defined in order to maintain unity within the organization. Applying Biblical Principles:
Pastoral Convictions: These are convictions about certain specifics of Holiness that God gives to a pastor for that congregation. They are not universal from church to church and often differ based on the type of leadership, the membership, demographics, and society as a whole. Applying Biblical Principles:
Personal Convictions: These are the convictions that God places in our lives in reference to our own personal Holiness. Applying Biblical Principles:
If ye love me, keep my commandments... ...If a man love me, he will keep my words. John 14:15,23 Why?
If ye love me, keep my commandments... ...If a man love me, he will keep my words. John 14:15,23 for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart. I Samuel 16:7 Why?
It is not a requirement as much as it is an expectation Holiness is a growth process... The church does not require holiness; they teach it as a natural growth process in Christ. As we grow in Christ, we will also grow in Holiness. No signs of growth indicates a problem in one's development
Holiness cannot be forced upon someone Holiness is a growth process... Religions that force standards upon people are legalistic and cults. People in those organizations live to those standards due to pressure or force, rather than a natural desire to serve God. Holiness is a choice. It is impossible to force Holiness on someone. You can simply make them 'appear' Holy.
Leadership positions require a certain level of 'maturity' Holiness is a growth process... Churches set limits that must be reached in areas of holiness, before a saint can become an active part of leadership in the church. It only makes sense that a member has reached a certain maturity in Christ before he/she becomes a leader or example to others in the church.
We need to focus on our own growth and not on others Holiness is a growth process... Do not concern yourself with other peoples level of Holiness. Because so much of holiness is generally what is shown on the outside, it is all too easy to become judgmental. Everyone grows at different rates. Everyone struggles with different things in their lives; Some are simply more noticeable than others. Focus on your own walk with Christ and making sure that your own heart is right.
It is not a requirement as much as it is an expectation Holiness cannot be forced upon someone Leadership positions require a certain level of 'maturity' We need to focus on our own growth and not on others Holiness is a growth process... …the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart. I Samuel 16:7
If this is why we live the way we do, that is all we really need to tell people, when they ask us why. Something to the effect of, "I am a born again Christian, and I want to do my best to please God. I believe He desires such and such in my life, and I love him enough to do that." Responding to others...
Never tell someone that you live the way you do because your church says you have to. If this is the reason that you have Holiness attributes in your life, you may as well not bother. You are not Holy, you are merely trying to appear Holy. Responding to others...
The closer we get to true holiness, the less it consists of what we do and don't do, and the more it consists of who we are. It is a lifestyle that pleases God, not a bunch of rights and wrongs. It is an attitude, a faith, and a commitment to the one that has made our life full.
