8. Check if manufacturing codes match! Original example: thefirst five digits of the manufacturing code on packaging for print cartridges for HP laser printers are identical with the first five digits of the code on the contained print cartridge, e.g. 5B21N1F =5B21N1FK. Fake example: the first five digits of the manufacturing codes on the packaging and the print cartridge for laser printers are not identical, e.g. 3C08H2  9A18H8. 9. Check if “install before” and “end of warranty” datescorrelate! Original example: the “end of warranty” date lies around six months (+/- 2) after the “install before” date: if the HP inkjet print cartridge box indicates September 2007, the HP inkjet print cartridge should indicate e.g. 24 March 2008. Fake example: the “end of warranty” date on the print cartridge does not lie around six months after the “install before date” on the packaging, e.g.September 2007  12 January 2005. Disaccording dates on packaging and contained inkjet print cartridges should give reason to suspect that counterfeiting is at play. ! ② Strong indicators (inkjet): “install before” and EOW dates

Print cartridges are not delivered in HP’s normalpackaging, or the packaging looks used or appears to have been tampered with. • Print cartridges and/or boxes are covered with ink or toner, respectively, or leak inside the printer. • Pull tabsare different to those found on genuine HP products or are broken before first use. General indicators:product performance and appearance If one or more of the following product-related indicators apply, there is reason to become suspicious that a product is not original. • Quality of the printoutis poor and/or inconsistent. • Print cartridges show an extremely high failure rate.

11. Any telemarketing offers by an alleged „HP representative“ • Dubious internet or e-mail offers, which incorporate any of these indicators General indicators:sales-techniques If one or more of the following sales-technique indicators apply, there is reason to suspect that illegal scheming is at play. • “Free offers”, followed by a notice to pay for “extras” like processing or shipping and handling • Any price which is obviously “too good to be true” • Insistence e.g. on cash-on-delivery shipment • Unwillingness to provide bank or customer reference numbers Test your memory
