The Present Of Be:Yes/No Questions • In questions, a form of be comes before the subject  Are you happy? • Short answer  Yes/ Yes, You are • Long answer  Yes, You are happy • When we are unsure of an answer, we say, “I don’t know.” • When we think something is true, we say, “Yes, I think so.” • When we think something is untrue, we say “No, I don’t think so.”

  6. Past Time Markers • The past tense of be has 2 forms: was & were • In informal writing & in speaking, use contractions wasn’t& weren’t in negative statements & short answers • Past time markers can go at the beginning or the end a sentence: - Yesterday he was absent - He was absent yesterday
