N.T. –God hath said! • Matt. 26:30 30 And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives. • Which disciple do you think was singing??
Acts 16:25 • 25 And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them. • Who heard whom?
Rom. 15:9 • And that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy; as it is written, For this cause I will confess to thee among the Gentiles, and sing unto thy name. • Who?

Examples & Instruction We are told what to sing (Eph. 5:19). 1) "Psalms" - the heritage of the Jews which expresses deliverance, thanksgiving, etc. 2) "Hymns" - songs of praise, reverence and adoration. 3) "Spiritual Songs" - a song which correctly expresses the thoughts, facts, and emotions of Christianity.
A Cappella Music: Truth or Tradition N.T. Examples & Instruction We are told what to sing (Eph. 5:19). We are told how to sing: 1) With spirit and understanding (1 Cor. 14:15). 2) With melody in the heart (Eph. 5:19). 3) With grace in the heart (Col. 3:16).

Where? • In a bush harbor? • In a tent meeting? • In a rented store building? • In a small building • In a large building
What songs should we sing? • 1. Ones that we know. • 2. Ones that will lift us up. • 3. Ones that will praise God • 4. Ones that will express our feelings about Jesus Christ. • 5. Ones that will help us get through the day.
Three important things about singing • 1. Who is singing directed to? • God. • 2. Who else? To those we are trying to teach. • 3. Who else? To ourselves. To lift you up.
