  1. Curriculum change September 2014 onwards

Key stage 3 The number of periods of English and Maths will increase to 8 in years 7, 8 and 9 from September • This is due to the increased size of both these subjects in the new national curriculum Subject changes – Dance becomes part of core PE, Drama becomes part of English. MFL reduced to 5 periods and Technology to three periods/ fortnight. • These changes are to accommodate the extra English and Maths time

  3. Year Nine • 8 periods of English and Maths • To support the study of the new GCSEs • 3 GCSE preparation courses • To support the study of linear GCSEs • New GCSEs in 2015 • Students will be taking the new style of GCSE graded 1-9 in English Language, English Literature and Mathematics.

  4. Key stage 4 changes • New GCSEs in English Language, English Literature and Maths in September 2015 • September 2016 – most subjects have new GCSEs this year • Remaining GCSEs reformed i.e. Food and Nutrition and Engineering

  5. Year 11 – September 2014 • Intervention in English and Maths • English and Maths is now compulsory post-16 for students who have not attained the GCSE. This intervention time will be sued to support those students we believe may be unsuccessful at the end of year 11. • Post-16 preparation courses • Students from September 2015 will be taking new A levels in most subjects. These courses are in place to support students in bridging the gap between the old style GCSEs and the new A levels.

  6. Key stage 5 - 2015 • Content changes for A-level subjects for first teaching 2015 include: • a strengthened mathematical and quantitative content - in Science, Computer Science, Economics and Business • an increased emphasis on practical skills in Science • the inclusion of an 'unseen text' in English Literature • an increased breadth of study in History • a significant overhaul of Computer Science content

  7. Key stage 5 - 2016 • The A-level subjects that will be redeveloped and introduced from 2016 include: • Dance • Drama • Music • Design and Technology • Religious Studies • PE FURTHER REDEVELOPMENT PLANNED FOR 2017 – e.g. Media Studies
