  2. Where is it? • Bîlteni is at 35 kms South of Targu Jiu. • Between Rovinari and Turceni. • Near the river Jiu

The town • The administrative commune was constituted in 1968. but the first document about her existence was in 15th century. • Today the locality is composed of 5 villages : Moi, Vladuleni, Bîlteni, Pesteana-Jiu and Cocoreni. • Population : 8000 inhabitants (2200 in Bîlteni) • Superficies : 9161 ha (5000 are forest) • The fauna are very rich there in forest and river.

  4. Origin of the name • The origin of this village name are about the geographic configuration of this place with soft rock. Rock Soft = Roci Moi -> Moi • In this soft rock, the Jiu did a valley with a lot of turn who make some marsh in this area. Marsh = Bãlţea -> Bîlteni • In this humid area, the fauna are very rich in the river, it’s a lot of fish (“peste”-> Pesteana-Jiu) and crane (“cocori”-> Cocoreni). • Vladuleni come from the name Vlad, the first owner of this place.

  5. He born in Sadu, but he go to live at Bîlteni when he was 20 years old ago up until then he dead. He has developed the town. He his very popular there. Dinca SCHELERU

  8. The climate • Middle temperature for yearly : 10°C • Precipitation : 500-700mm • Wind predominant of North • The climate has suffered because of the two power plant in Turceni and Rovinari.

  9. The activities • The resources of Bîlteni are carbon, petrol, natural gazes, stone for construction from the ground. • The principal activity of this commune is the exploitation in carries. (extraction of resources) • It was a lot of mines but there are closed now because it was too dangerous.
