The Refuge is an upscale daily fee golf course owned by the City of Flowood (a suburb of Jackson, Miss. near the Intl Airport) operated by Watermark Golf Management. The Refuge is a “core course” with no home sites and is known for it’s natural setting and ongoing conservation work.
Lampton Love Propane’s engineers fabricated a bracket for the 7.8 gallon horizontal propane tank installed on this one year-old Jacobsen riding greens mower. This unit and an identical one still running on gasoline were used simultaneously at The Refuge for more than two weeks to gather data in order to determine the real world impact of the conversion.
After operating the gasoline-powered greens mower and the propane-powered greens mower simultaneously, the following data was gathered showing the difference in fuel efficiency and carbon emissions between the two units:

Once the greens mowers were converted, all other pieces of gasoline-powered equipment were converted to propane (a tee mower and riding bunker rake are pictured above). Lampton Love Propane’s engineers worked with Watermark Golf staff to develop a new bracket to mount a 3.4 gal vertical tank to a gasoline golf car that was used as a test car.
After nearly a year of operating all maintenance equipment on propane instead of gasoline, we know that the numerous advantages of operating on propane outweigh gasoline. Advantages of Propane: 1. Less Expensive per Gallon 2. More Efficient 3. Cleaner-Burning 4. Reduces the Cost of Maintaining the Equipment 5. Safer to Handle (no spills) Tip: Be sure you have a full-time preventative maintenance mechanic.
