UDMCJ : NAAC PRESENTATION :FOUR DECADES OF PROUD PROGRESS - 2 UDMCJ was established in the year 1973 August during the tenure of then Vice –Chancellor Late Dr. R.P. Nath Founding Director of the UDMCJ was renowned social scientist and editor Late S. M. Garge and gave founding values & principles to move on Letter on able academic leadership was provided by late Dr. Sudhakar Pawar , Dr. V.L. Dharurkar , Prof. Suresh Puri and present Professor & Head Dr. Sudhir Gavhane during last four decades . Contribution of Late Prof. Sukhram Hiwarale , present asociate professor Jaidev Dole and Dr. Dinkar Mane is note-worthy .
UDMCJ : PRESENTATION FOR NAAC-3 • JOURNEY FROM LOCAL TO GLOCAL JOURNALISM • During last 40 years [1973 -2013] UDMCJ has made meaningful & note-worthy contribution in producing hundreds of journalists , many editors, producers , programme executives , PRO s , District Information Officers [DIOs] , University & college teachers , TV & Radio professionals, media and publication entrepreneurs and they are working all over Maharashtra and other states of India • All our alumni are truly our AMBASSADOR • We have very active alumni association with 300 + members. Till now,we have conducted two meetings of ALUMNI ASSOCIATION • Over the years , we are successful in creating our Brand Image as the one of the best , biggest and productive department in the country .

For Digital HD TV Studio , Digital HD Radio Studio , Digital Print Lab , Multimedia Studio , Animation Studio • Equipment purchase orders are placed of Rs.2 cr. • This shall be state of the art infrastructure ,that too best in the country !
Presentation for NAAC • 11 th Plan Grant of UGC HIGHEST in the Social Sciences : 21 lakh • Extension building completed • Digital Cameras , interactive digital board, PROJECTORS ,AUDIO RECORDERS purchased • During 10th Plan grant of 10 lakh fully utilized for technological upgradation , media labs development
UDMCJ: BAMU : PRESENTATION FOR NAAC • POLICY SHIEFT IN 21 ST CENTURY TO COPE UP WITH NEW GLOBAL CHALLENGES : • From the year 2000 , we made drastic changes in our policies and programmes to cope up with globalized media environment • Along with LOCAL media human resource creation mission , we have added GLOBAL media human resource mission by instituting state of the art technology –driven courses catering journalistic needs of developing world . • Thus our mission converted in to GLOCAL JOURNALISM TRAINING [ Global and Local ] and accordingly new courses were adopted such as UNESCO designed [2008] Model Curriculum for Developing countries was instituted first time in India in the year 2009 .
UDMCJ : BAMU: PRESENTATION FOR NAAC • In first decade of 21st century with the introduction of UNESCO Graduation Course in INTERNATIONAL JOURNALISM , we very proudly put on record that , we have students from SIX COUNTRIES namely Kenya , Egypt , Sudan , Iraq , Yemen and Tanzania including 4 doctoral students . This is the only Dept in the country have been attracting students from 6 countries . • Innovative Programme : • UDMCJ has launched innovative programme in brand new pattern of creative journalism called as “ COMICS JOURNALISM “ in collaboration with World Comics India , New Delhi lead by Sharad Sharma • This course is Diploma in Comics Journalism and it’s a first of its kind in the world to be launched in Dec 2013 . • Unique feature of this course : it shall be FIRST ONLINE COURSE OF BAMU and first ever OPEN COURSE WARE • [ Meaning free online course ]

UDMCJ : BAMU : NAAC PRESENTATION • Admissions Procedure : • Admission by way of JET (Journalism Entrance Test) followed by GDPI (Group Discussion, Personal Interview) • Almost more than 300 students appear and out of them 130 students are selected for various courses. • Only department in the state following GDPI system in selection. • M.Phil. Students are selected through Entrance.

Teaching/Learning Resource : (2) • Media Labs : • 1) Print Media Lab : Computer Lab with 15 Computers with Coral Draw, Newspapers Design Softwares, Digital Printer A-3 Size, Scanners for Newspapers layout & design for Pre-Printing process. • 2) Electronic & New Media Lab : • Computer Lab with 10 Computers LAN along with Audio, Video Editing facilities for production of T.V. & Radio Programmes.
UDMCJ: BAMU: NAAC PRESENTATION • OUR COLLABORATIONS : • We have collaboration with Makhanlal Chaturvedi National Journalism University , since 2006 -7 and we are collaborating in terms of research and teachers / students Exchange Programme . • National Language History Research Project history of Marathi Journalism is undertaken by Dr. Sudhir Gavhane and our students /teachers visit that university . Recently in 2012 our team of 8 international students and 6 teachers participated in the International Conference on Media Plularity • Collaboration with World Comics India • Collaboration is underway with McMurry University , USA , • MoU is expected to be signed in Nov 2013 , interaction held .

UDMCJ : BAMU : PRESENTATION FOR NAAC • WEAKNESSES : • Lack of adequate faculty strength [ required 7 full time , we have 4 ] .for self-financing courses we do not have a single full time faculty ,we are managing by CHB teachers • Attendance ratio of students is not good , it is around 40 to 50 % • Unable to attract students from all over India , at present we have students from 3 states . • Proportion of girl students is low [ 15 to 20 % ] • English and Hindi language competency is weak among students • Vibrant ICT application is needed • More discipline in conduct of all academic activities is needed
UDMCJ: BAMU: PRESENTATION FOR NAAC • Opportunities : • Can become Journalism & media education hub for developing countries as we have low fee structure and low living cost • Institution of highly specialized courses for different media branches seeing the future growth of Entertainment & Media Industry of 1 lakh cr for TV ,FM RADIO , NEW MEDIA , PR ,ADVERTISING , CORPORATE COMMUNICATON , GLOBAL JOURNALISM etc. • With Digital Studio infra we can undertake teachers training in e-content creation • Launching of e-learning courses for online education
