  2. It all started with a need • The ASI Food Pantry helps to alleviate hunger within our student community • The Pop Up Pantry provides fresh produce at no cost to Sac State students in need

  3. A collective effort • Bio-Conversion & Agricultural Collaborative (BAC) Yard • Fruit Route • Harvest Sacramento • Citrus grove • Farm to Fork Festival/Dinner on the Bridge • Capital Public Radio garden partnership

  4. The BAC Yard • Home of the ASI Garden; collaborative efforts of students, faculty, and staff • Educational opportunities include seed propagation, pollinators and pollinator garden, organic growing techniques and natural pest control

  5. Fruit Route • Student Project—Amanda Baker • Grounds Department Contributed • Helped us qualify for Tree Campus USA • Paved the way • for more fruit • trees on campus

  6. Citrus Grove • Free to all • Prominently located—easy and accessible • Partially maintained by students • Trees are free through local partnership—compost/tree barter

  7. Harvest Sacramento • Joint venture between Community Engagement Center and Soil Born Farms • TONS of fruit picked and collected • Food harvested from local neighborhoods and donated to Pop-Up Pantry and other local pantries • Participants had their trees and bushes dressed with Sac State made compost!

  8. Cap Radio Garden at Sacramento State • Only NPR affiliate in the nation with a garden • Designed and built to combat food scarcity • Partially maintained by and open to Sac State students • Generously donate food to Sac State and other schools

  9. Farm to Fork Festival • Annual event on campus to raise awareness of food related issues • Proceeds from dinner go to the ASI Pop-Up Pantry • Festival themes include scarcity issues, migrant workers, and sustainability • Students are invited to share their stories with the public

  10. Budgets • The majority of these programs exist through generous donations of time and funds • The ASI Garden at the BAC Yard has an approximate cost of $5,000 including the hoop house and cost of building and gardening supplies

  11. Outreach! • Pop-Up Pantry: 500 students each pop-up or 4,500 donations average a semester • BAC Yard: 26 tours in last 12 months or approximately 780 visitors a year • Harvest Sacramento: 75-100 students and 25 campus neighborhoods • Farm to Fork: 3,000-6,000 pass through Library Quad festival and 125 ticket holders and 50 staff and students enjoy dinner on the bridge
