Some questions I’d like to answer: • Where is the location? • What was it (or is it) used for? • How long is it? • In the middle of the river, how deep is it? • What sort of wildlife live near (or on) the river? • Does the river Don have any other names?
Q1. WHERE IS THE LOCATION? A: The river Don is a river in south Yorkshire, England.
Q2. WHAT WAS IT (OR IS IT) USED FOR? A: Two reasons really; to provide a public water supply and to supply mills, foundries and cutlers’ wheels with water power.
Q3. HOW LONG IS IT? A: The river Don flows for 70 miles (110KM) eastwards, through the Don valley.
Q4. IN THE MIDDLE OF THE RIVER, HOW DEEP IS IT? A: It can be up to 15 feet deep in the centre, with a width of around 30 metres.
Q5. WHAT SORT OF WILDLIFE LIVE NEAR (OR ON) THE RIVER DON? A: Things like: Dragonflies, Pondskaters, Ducks, Swans, Moorhens, Foxes, Rabbits, Owls, Kingfishers, Otters, Brown trout and Herons.
Q6. DOES IT HAVE ANY OTHER NAMES? A: Yes, such as; • The river Danu • The river Dôn • The river Dun
