Overview – WFO Huntsville • 20 People on Staff • Includes forecasters, management, and support personnel • Office established in 2003 • Has become a leading office of the NWS: • Active Weather • Co-located with NASA/UAH • Engaged General Public • Strong Partners • Phenomenal Staff
Air Quality Needs • We will want everything you can possibly give us.
Air Quality Needs • On a typical day, a NWS office is asked about numerous weather and sky events. • We are expected to be experts in many areas – even if we aren’t. • The better information we have and the better training we get, the better we will serve your community.
Why Local and not National? • You can do both. • All weather is local.

ANOTHER BOUT WITH SMOKE AND HAZE IS EXPECTED TODAY...WITH VISIBILITY DROPPING FROM 2 TO 4 MILES FOR A PERIOD THIS MORNING. PERSONS WITH HEALTH CONDITIONS SENSITIVE TO SMOKE SHOULD TAKE APPROPRIATE MEASURES TO PROTECT THEMSELVES. THE FIRE DANGER WILL BE SOMEWHAT LESS THAN IN RECENT DAYS DUE TO LIGHTER WIND FLOW AND A SLIGHT INCREASE IN MOISTURE.

Parting Thoughts • We cannot toss data to forecasters without training. • At best, the information will not be used • At worst, the information will be misused • We want to serve the public better then we do today. In the area of air quality, we cannot do it without your help.
