In October 2001 a Commandant message placed the trailers on a low emphasis due to our additional duties of Security! In March of 2004 District 5 decided to bring the purpose of the trailers back into focus. Pollution Response Trailers
I inspected and recorded the deteriorating conditions and quickly learned how difficult it would be to achieve full intended function of their use with Sector support for a program left to decay for years. Pollution Response Trailers
District 5 has an average use of 3 times/year for the trailers. I’m speaking of FY04, 05, and 06. Pollution Response Trailers

The Sector Engineering Officer was brought along on the FY06 inspection of the trailers. HQ included the response trailers in a May 2005 preventative maintenance manual. Pollution Response Trailers
Current plans! • 2 Sector response personnel attended a 5-day oil spill booming course in November. Sectors are asked to provide stations the skills and knowledge of deploying boomby April 1st. Pollution Response Trailers
Current plans! • Captain of the Ports had this training in place before 9/11! The District Admiral wants to return to a proficient level! Pollution Response Trailers
Future plans! • Make District Five’s trailer hitches all the same size as the Standard 25 ft Boat trailer, 2-5/16 in. This simplifies equipment needs when a young Coastie is in a hurry!
