  3. GOLF A set of golf balls sells for $20. This week it is on sale for 30% off. What is the sale price of the set? Method 1Subtract the discount from the regular price. First, find the amount of the discount. 30% of $20 = 0.30  $20 Write 30% as a decimal. = $6.00 The discount is $6.00. Next, subtract the discount from the regular price. $20.00 – $6.00 = $14.00 Example 1

  4. Method 2Subtract the percent of discount from 100%. 100% – 30% = 70% Subtract the discount from 100%. The total cost is 70% of the regular price. 70% of $20 = 0.70  $20 Write 70% as a decimal. = $14.00 Multiply. Answer: So, the sale price of the set of golf balls is $14.00. Example 1

Step 2 Subtract the discount from the regular price. $39 – $9.75 = $29.25 Example 2
